Hello,
My name is Robert Patuzzi and I am searching some information about my late mothers schooling (primary and secondary) in Hereford. I have a list of names of her school friends and teachers, but little else, and am wondering if there is a register of teaching staff or students from the 1930's. That would help me triangulate her comings and goings from Hereford High School and possible Lord Scudathorp Primary. If anyone could help with possible online databases or even a local contact email to ask that someone could check in person, I would be very very appreciative. I am hoping to finally visit Hereford next year.

I wonder if any of your readers can help me with more information on the St Martin’s Home for the Penitent which was open in the late Victorian era and the building stayed in use (though I suspect the name will have subtly changed) until the 1970s.

Our family is researching our ancestors and we know that my maternal great grandmother was at the Home in 1881, listed in the census as a ‘domestic servant’. This was, of course, often used in that time as a euphemism for unmarried mother but we have no way of knowing if that might apply in this instance.

Any information on the criteria for being a resident at the Home, the work done by those ‘servants’ (I think laundry work) and in particular is there are any established links to the West Indies, would be gratefully received. We know that great grandmother came to Hereford from Bermuda but we have no way of telling why she came to Hereford at that time.

The Hereford Archives did not have much information on the Home when I was there last year but I shall be staying back in the area next week (from Sun 26th), so any leads or information would be most welcome.

Thank you
